A 47-year-old man has been remanded in continuing custody accused of the attempted robbery of a bookmakers in Tralee on Saturday afternoon.
John Paul Farrell appeared in Tralee District Court this morning, having been refused bail by Judge David Waters in Killarney on Monday.
His solicitor Pádraig O’Connell also asked for Mr Farrell’s address on the court paperwork to be changed to Muckross Road, Killarney.
It’s alleged that Mr Farrell entered Boylesports on Edward Street in Tralee at 4:40pm on Saturday, and immediately approached the till counter demanding money from the staff.
The court previously heard Mr Farrell is alleged to have reached into his jacket to gesture he had a weapon, leading staff to believe he was armed and to fear for their own safety.
He faces one charge of attempted robbery arising from this alleged incident, an offence which carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment on conviction.
At Tralee District Court this morning, Sergeant Chris Manton said the Director of Public Prosecutions has not yet directed where Mr Farrell should be tried.
Judge David Waters noted he had already refused jurisdiction, meaning the case will not be heard in the district court, but the DPP must formally give directions before the case can proceed.
Judge Waters remanded Mr Farrell in continuing custody to 19th November, when he will appear again in court.
Mr Farrell’s solicitor Pádraig O’Connell said this was by consent.
Mr O’Connell also asked the court that Mr Farrell’s address on the court's paperwork be changed to Muckross Road, Killarney, and Sergeant Manton said he was going to make the same application.
