There are 38 patients waiting on trolleys in University Hospital Kerry today.
That’s according to figures from the Irish Nurses’ and Midwives’ Organisation.
They show there are 21 patients waiting on a trolley in UHK’s emergency department, while a further 17 people are waiting on trolleys in wards within the hospital.
The HSE says UHK's ED is exceptionally busy and should be only used when urgent critical care is required.
UHK is appealing to the public not to attend the ED unless you need emergency care.
Nationally, there are 637 people waiting on trolleys in hospitals today.
University Hospital Limerick is the worst affected by overcrowding today, there are 107 people waiting on trolleys there.
