Over 300 (336) farmers in Kerry have applied for grant support to install solar panels since a specific scheme opened in February 2023.
That’s according to information provided by the minister for agriculture, Martin Haydon to Dublin TD Roderic O'Gorman.
The Solar Capital Investment Scheme (SCIS) is a measure under the Targeted Agriculture Modernisation Scheme, also known as TAMS 3, to help farmers meet climate and sustainability targets using renewable energy.
Farmers can install on-farm renewable technologies like solar PV panels and battery storage.
To date, over 5,500 (5,537) applications have been received nationwide in the first ten tranches of the scheme.
214 approvals have issued for Kerry, allowing farmers proceed with installation.
57 Kerry farmers have now received grant funding.
The Department of Agriculture says over 1,200 (1,232) applicants have been issued an average payment of over €18,500 (€18,570), equivalent to €22.9 million in total.
