Uisce Éireann received 23 complaints from people in Kerry that their drinking water made them sick in the last two years.
That’s according to Uisce Éireann’s own records, released to journalist Ken Foxe under the Freedom of Information Act.
The data shows that there was one complaint from Kerry about drinking water making someone sick in January 2023, another in April that year.
There was also one complaint each in the months of June, August, September, and October that year, and another two in November 2023.
In 2024, there was one complaint each from Kerry to Uisce Éireann about drinking water making people sick in the months of March, June, July, and October.
There were two complaints in April, May, August, and September, while there were three complaints from Kerry about this last November.
Uisce Éireann says this represents complaints from customers reporting that they suspect their illness is caused by drinking water, not actual proven illnesses caused by drinking water.
Uisce Éireann added all customer complaints mentioning illness are treated seriously and promptly investigated to determine if there is a water quality issue.
Uisce Éireann has said there was no verified illness due to drinking water quality related to any of the complaints received.
