The number of gorse fires attended by the Kerry Fire Service increased by 220% between January and the end of November last year.
That’s compared to the same period in the previous year.
The figures were compiled by the Kerry Fire Service and outline the numbers and types of call-outs the service attends.
Between January and the end of November last year, the Kerry Fire Service was mobilised 1,662 times; which is up from 1,415 during the same period in 2024; this represents a rise of 17.5%.
During the same period, the service attended 143 gorse fires in the county; that’s up 221% when compared to the same time the previous year when the Kerry Fire Service attended 46 gorse fires.
During the first 11 months of last year, the fire service attended 283 collisions, which is up from 212 in 2024; that’s an increase of 33.5%.
Instances of chimney fires were down 18.5% last year; the Kerry Fire service attended 44 chimney fires last year, down from 54 during the same months in 2024.
