A Kerry doctor believes a culture change is needed to improve farm safety. To date, 15 people have been killed on Irish farms this year.

To date, 15 people have been killed on Irish farms this year.

Dr Michael Sheehan from Fossa, Killarney is part of a team that carried out an audit on serious farm accidents.

Between 2014 and 2016, 430 patients were identified as having suffered trauma as a result of a farm accident; they ranged in age from less than one year old to 93.

Farmer workers suffer more than twice as many non-fatal workplace injuries as other workers.

Dr Sheehan told Agritime there needs to be a change in attitude towards farm safety to help curb the increasing number of accidents:
