From 1st December staff in the hospitality sector will have their tips protected under law.
The legislation also gives employees a legal requirement to receive tips and gratuities paid in electronic form.
The law also states that gratuities should be paid in a manner that is fair; this includes the service charge which appears automatically on bills and receipts around Ireland.
