The Book That Was Banned — May 18th, 2026

The Tailor and Ansty by Eric Cross, which was published in 1942, celebrated the wit and conversation of a couple that lived in Gougane Barra. Kilgarvan native Tadhg Buckley and his wife Anastasia were renowned for their humour. Astonishingly, the book was banned because of the couple’s earthy language.

Jerry spoke to Neil Lucey, owner of the Gougane Barra Hotel, and Seán Ó Súilleabháin of Cumann Staire Uibh Laoire/ Ballingeary and Inchigeela Historical Society.
