Wiffen Hands Over World Title As He Finishes Last In Final

Daniel Wiffen has surrendered the first of his world titles at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore.

 

The 24-year-old Irish Olympian finished last in the final of the 800 metres freestyle which was won by Tunisian, swimmer Ahmed Jaouadi.

The Olympic champion - who still has his 1500 metre title to defend at the weekend - revealed yesterday that he's over a bout of appendicitis.

Danielle Hill was seventh in her 50-metre backstroke semi-final and 12th overall so doesn't advance.

 

Ellen Walshe returns for the 200-metre butterfly semi-finals just after 1:15pm Irish time.
