Garvey’s Tralee Warriors host Limerick Celtics at 7 tonight in the Dominos Men’s Super League. Alan Cantwell previews
Match preview:
Garvey's Tralee Warriors face Limerick Celtics in the first of three home games in row ahead of their final home and away game against Éanna on March 14th.
After a hugely significant win away to Killester last weekend with a dramatic final quarter turnaround, Warriors now have their destiny firmly in their own hands as to where on the final table they finish. A top four finish is now possible but it will require winning three and possibly all four of their remaining games.
Next weekend they will face Energywise Neptune who are favourites for relegation from Super League and the following Wednesday night they welcome Flexachem KCYMS to Tralee who are also firmly in the battle to avoid the drop to National League Division One.
This weekend however Warriors meet a Limerick Celtics side that will be buoyed by a big win away to UCC Demons last weekend with their talisman point guard AJ Williams shooting 35 and their local contingent of players shooting a combined 42 points to seal the win.
A win for Limerick Celtics would secure their place in the playoffs. For Warriors a win would continue their push for a finish in the upper tier of the Super League table and a chance of a home quarter final.
Its Garvey's Tralee Warriors v Limerick Celtics in a back game from Round 15 of the Dominos Mens Super League, tip off at the Kerry Sports Academy tomorrow evening at 7.00pm.
In other Warriors news, Garvey's Tralee Warriors Womens BIDL team have made it through to the quarter final playoff and will face a tough trip to Galway to take on Claregalway who finished their group games unbeaten with a 7 wins from 7 record. Fixtures details to follow.
And finally, despite an 82-80 win over table toppers Limerick Celtics in the final group game, the Warriors U20s Men missed out on the playoffs by the smallest of margins. Having finished on the same number of wins as Ballincollig and Rathmore and with each team recording a win and a loss against the other two teams, the competition committee decided the issue on the basis of the teams performance and points against each other in their respective League games.
Warriors beat Rathmore by 4, Ballincollig beat Warriors by 9 and Rathmore beat Ballincollig by 7 so Warriors ended up -5, Ballincollig on +2 and Rathmore on +3 and therefore it is Ballincollig and Rathmore that progress to the quarter finals as the third and fourth placed teams in Group 2.
Killarney Cougars are away to Portlaoise Panthers from 4 in the Men's National League.
