Saturday afternoon local GAA results

Credit Union Senior Football League

Division 2
1-12 Kenmare Shamrocks V Dingle 0-16
Our senior football team suffered their first defeat of this year’s County League Division 2 campaign on Saturday, the game was played in Fr. Breen Park in wet and testing conditions at home.

Dingle started the brighter, with Tadgh Brown opening the scoring before Michael Geaney tagged on two more, including a fine effort from distance. The visitors kept the scoreboard ticking over and had four points on the board before Donal O’Sullivan opened Kenmare’s account.

Struggling to gain a foothold around the middle third, Kenmare were under pressure as Dingle pushed their lead out to six by the 20-minute mark (0-8 to 0-2). Dingle's full-forward Cathal Banbury caused problems throughout and added two quick points to stretch the advantage further. By the break, the scoreboard read Kenmare Shamrocks 0-6, Dingle 0-12. Kenmare’s first-half scorers included Donal O’Sullivan, Cian O’Sullivan, Stephen O’Brien, and Eoghan McCarthy.

A big start was needed in the second half, and the Shamrocks responded with real purpose. Donal O’Sullivan (2) and Darren Allman clipped over points to narrow the gap to three. Paul O’Connor was introduced for Allman on 45 minutes and made an immediate impact, firing over a point within a minute of coming on. Moments later, O’Connor was on hand again, rattling the net with a well-placed finish to give Kenmare the lead for the first time – 1-11 to 0-14.

The game turned into a tit-for-tat battle in the closing stages. Michael Geaney levelled matters on the 50-minute mark before Dingle nudged ahead again on 57 minutes. Donal O’Sullivan replied with a brilliant score from play to leave it all square with a minute of normal time remaining.

But deep into injury time, Kenmare conceded a free in a scorable position – and Geaney made no mistake, slotting it over to seal the win for Dingle by the narrowest of margins.
