Russia look almost certain to miss the World Cup after the Court of Arbitration rejected a request to suspend a FIFA ban from football.
The Russian Football Union had asked to freeze the suspension while CAS investigates a full appeal against the sanction - which followed the country's invasion of Ukraine.
Russia were due to be in a play-off semi-final with Poland - who've been given a bye to the final.
