He reportedly felt unwell ahead of his old side's Premier League game with Liverpool at Old Trafford - which they won 3-2.
Ferguson led United to 13 Premier League titles and two Champions League triumphs during his 26 years in charge of the club from 1986 to his retirement in 2013.
