Poor opening round for McIlroy at US Open

Rory McIlroy will hope for a better second round at the US Open later.

The world number two is four-over-par heading into Day Two at Oakmont, with JJ Spaun out in front on four-under.

Shane Lowry's faces a battle to make the cut as he resumes from nine-over this evening.

McIlroy and Lowry tee off in the same group again today - they're out on course from 25-past-six.

Leona Maguire is level par after an opening round of 72 at the Meijer LPGA Classic in Michigan.

The Cavan woman begins her second round shortly before 6pm this evening.
