The second round of the Tim Scannell Memorial Inter-Club Matchplay Championship took place in Deerpark last Sunday as competitors played through some strong winds, squaly showers and the odd arrival of sunshine.

In Group A Tralee 5 picked up their second win of the campaign with a 4-2 victory over Castleisland 1 as Deerpark 3 had a 3.5-2.5 win over Listowel B.
Heading into the final Group Round this Sunday in Castleisland, Tralee 5 lead the Group and will top it once they avoid defeat to Listowel B. Castleisland 1 and Deerpark 3 will be fighting it out for second place in their match but remember it’s only the second placed side with the best record in the three groups that will advance to the semi-finals.
Group B saw the first match draw of this year’s event as there was no separating Tralee 2 and Tralee 4 at 3-3 around the Killarney track. Tralee 1 had a 4.5-1.5 win over Listowel A however as they top the Group going into their last match with Tralee 2 in what is ‘winner take all’ in terms of top spot. Tralee 4 will take on Listowel A in the other Group fixture. Finally, Group C saw Tralee 3 defeat Deerpark 2 5-1 as Deerpark 1 defeated Castleisland 2 by 4-2. Tralee C look set to top the group in playing Castleisland 2 on Sunday with both Deerpark sides arguably fighting it out for a chance at finishing second in advance.
Following this Sunday’s action in Castleisland, it is hoped to complete the competition on the final Sunday of the month in Listowel. Further details will be announced next week however.
