As the Pitch & Putt season gets ready for its final month or so of action for 2025, the National Inter-Club Qualifying events held last Saturday at two different venues for Munster clubs saw three Kerry teams qualify for next month’s National Finals as Deerpark and Tralee took advantage of some misfortune for the Cork clubs on the day.
Deerpark 1 and Tralee 1 topped the list of four qualifiers from the Majestic course in Mallow as the Deerpark 1 team of Damien Fleming, John McGrath, James Fleming, Connie O’Sullivan Jnr, Colm O’Dowd and Derry O’Sullivan shot 29 under par combined with the Tralee 1 team of Jason Cregan, Michael Conway, Michael Creagh, Reece Sugrue, Alan O’Connor and Gavin Dillane bringing in 24 under par.
Deerpark 2 meanwhile claimed the fourth and final spot from Mallow behind Cunnigar of Dungarvan with their team of Cillian Courtney, Michael Cronin, Mark O’Shea, Noel Moynihan, David Harnett and Paddy Murphy bringing in 14 under par combined.
Deerpark 3 and Tralee 2 missed out on qualifying from Mallow while Listowel meanwhile were unsuccessful in trying to qualify from Tipperary Hills in Tipp Town on the same day. All three Kerry sides now go forward for the National Finals at a venue to be confirmed on the weekend of October of 19th.
Elsewhere last Sunday in Bruff at a special ranking event, Michael Conway was best of the Kerry contingent in 20th overall on 11 under par, eight shots behind the winner Stephen Shoer from Tipperary on 19 under par.
This weekend sees Deerpark bring back their U16 Scratch Cup (sponsored by the Victoria House Hotel, Killarney) on Saturday with play getting underway at 9.45am over 36 holes at €5 per player. We encourage all the county’s U16 players to support this event.
