Galway football manager Padraic Joyce admits he was 'surprised by the manner' of Cian O'Neill's exit from their management team.

O'Neill has left the All-Ireland finalists to return to Kerry as head-coach under Jack O'Connor while Galway are close to adding two people to their backroom team.

Joyce says he tried to keep the former Kildare boss with the Connacht champions.
