New International Rugby Laws Could Benefit Lower Tier Nations

The World Rugby Council has approved an amendment to regulations that will now permit an international player to transfer countries by virtue of birthright.

The rule, which comes into force from 1 January 2022, will allow players to transfer to represent a country provided they were born there, or have a parent or grandparent who was born there.

The player must not have played international rugby for a period of 3 years prior to becoming eligible for transfer.
