National Mens Strokeplay Qualifiers take place in Listowel

The National Mens Strokeplay Qualifiers were held in Listowel today.

In the Senior event Tralee’s Jason O’Regan led the way with 13 under par with club-mate Alan Hobbart next home on 12 under par. 2020 National Junior Mens Strokeplay winner Jake Shine from the host club was next on 10 under par as another Listowel player, Ryan Allman also qualified with nine under. John McGrath of Deerpark went through with eight under par as Tralee players Michael Conway (2020 National Intermediate Strokeplay winner) and Tony Blake both had seven under par. The final spot went to Castleisland’s Gavin Carroll on six under par, two clear of Listowel’s Chris Gibney on four under.

The Intermediate grade had six spots on offer as Bobby McCarron from the host club led the way on eight under par followed by Deerpark’s Ger Casey on seven under. Keith O’Brien and Roger Guthrie from Tralee had six and five under par respectively as Listowel’s Killian O’Gorman qualified with four under par. The last spot here went to Deerpark’s James Fleming on level par, one clear of Listowel’s Ger Guerin. The Junior grade had five spots meanwhile as Listowel’s Graham Tarrant led the way here on six under par.

His club-mate Fergus Keane was next home on level par as Tralee’s Pa Byrne qualified with two over par. The final two spots went to Deerpark players as Robbie Harnett and Fintan Martin had four and eight over par respectively, Fintan just claiming the last spot from Tralee’s Mark O’Regan by one stroke. The Senior and Junior Finals will take place in Ringcommons, Dublin with the Intermediates going to the Killineer course in Louth.

This Saturday sees our first U16 team Inter-County trial take place in Deerpark at 2pm. Meanwhile next Tuesday June 21st sees the Tim Scannell Memorial Inter-Club Matchplay begin in Tralee with the opening matches seeing Deerpark take on Listowel with Castleisland taking on Newmarket. The rota is the same as the Bob Casey meanwhile Castleisland host Round 2, Listowel Round 3, Deerpark Round 4 and Newmarket Round 5.

The final between the top two sides at the end is fixed for Tuesday July 26th.
