Masters glory and career grand slam for McIlroy

Rory McIlroy won the Masters after a topsy turvy day at Augusta.

He needed a playoff to beat Justin Rose after a final round of 73 left him on 11 under par for the tournament.

The Northern Irishman went into the final round with a 2 shot lead which he lost on the first hole thanks to a double bogey.

Having recovered to lead by 4 around the turn, a second double bogey on 13 threatened to add more heartbreak to his Georgia story.

A missed putt on 18 meant an extra hole with Rose was needed to end his 11 year wait for the career Grand Slam.

He bested the Englishman on their return to the final hole to win a fifth major and complete the set.
