Republic of Ireland manager Stephen Kenny has praised Shane Duffy after the Brighton centre-back complted a one-year loan deal with Scottish Premiership champions Celtic.

The Irish squad are training in Sofia ahead of tomorrow night's UEFA Nations League clash with Bulgaria.

RUGBY

Connacht will play in next season's European Champions Cup after the tournament organisers confirmed 24 teams are to take part in the competition.

The tournament will consist of 8 teams from the Pro 14, including all the Irish provinces, 8 teams from the Top 14 in France, and 8 teams from the English Premiership.

The competition will begin in December, with two pools of 12 to be assembled, with teams ranked into 4 tiers.

Each team will play four pool matches.

The quarter finals will be over two legs, with the decider to be staged in Marseille next May.

The English RFU are aiming to allow 20-thousand fans attend England's rugby union international against the Barbarians at Twickenham next month.

The RFU hopes to use a quarter of the stadium's full capacity, with space allowed for social distancing.

The match takes place on the 25th of October, a week before England play Italy in their rearranged Six Nations fixture.

Former Mayo footballer Pearce Hanley has announced his retirement from Aussie Rules.

The 31-year-old played 169 games in the AFL after making his debut as a 19-year-old in 2008 for the Brisbane Lions.

SNOOKER
Seven time world champion Stephen Hendry will return to the World Snooker Tour for the next two seasons.

The 51 year old Scot is coming out of retirement, after he stopped playing professionally in 2012.

Jimmy White and Ireland's Ken Doherty have also been awarded invitational tour cards.

Hanley also played for the Gold Coast Suns, having joined in 2017.
