Late winner for Derry

President's Cup winners Derry City struck late to get a victory on the opening night of the new SSE Airtricity League Premier Division season.

Alex Bannon and Josh Thomas hit the net in the last-10 minutes at the Brandywell as the Candystripes came from behind to beat Sligo Rovers 2-1.

Jago Godden was on target on his Drogheda United debut as they won 1-nil at Galway United.

While Waterford and Shelbourne drew 1-all at the RSC.
