Knight set to miss Ireland World Cup qualifiers; Dundalk start Cup defence

Jason Knight looks set to miss the Republic of Ireland's World Cup qualifiers in September.

Derby boss Wayne Rooney says the midfielder will need between eight to twelve weeks to recover from an ankle issue.

Rooney added that surgery won't be required.

Dundalk begin their defence of the FAI Cup this afternoon.

Vinny Perth's side make the trip to First Division side Treaty United for a 2pm kick-off.

At the same time, Crumlin United take on St Mochta's and Liffey Wanderers face Cobh Ramblers.

Five-time winners Sligo Rovers host Cork City at 5pm while the early kick-off is an all non-league meeting of Donnycarney and Usher Celtic.

Last night Longford advanced to round-two with a 5-nil win against Bangor at Bishopsgate.
