On a dull afternoon at Austin Stack Park in Tralee with a gentle mist falling onto the pitch, Abbeydorney and Kilmoyley lined-out aiming to take the first place in the final.

Abbeydorney, the conquerors of Lixnaw found the target in the first minute after PJ Keane was fouled in the first attack. He took the free himself to give them the lead.

The same man doubled O’Dorney’s lead from a free taken between the 45 and 65 on the stand side towards the Dunnes Stores end of the pitch.

It was another dead ball opportunity that led to Kilmoyley finding the scoreboard with Daniel Collins point from a free.

It was another Daniel who was next to score – Daniel O’Leary for Abbeydorney from left half forward, putting his side 2 points up again after 5 minutes.

Daniel Collins picked up two more points from frees separated by another Abbeydorney point from the stick of Michael O’Leary.

Finally, there were a few moments of drama in both goal mouths. Firstly, Michael Slattery who had a golden chance that hit the post and was turned around for a 65”. PJ Keane missed the conversion attempt and then at the other end, Maurice O’Connor’s effort for a goal was thwarted but he found the net with a kick from the restart.

Heading into the water break, Kilmoyley led 1-03 to 0-04.

After the restart, Daniel Collins pointed a fourth free to extend the lead to 3 points. Jordan Brick (Kilmoyley) and Daniel O’Leary (Abbeydorney) exchanged points 1-05 to 0-05 and Daniel O’Leary scored his third point to make it a two-point game.

PJ Keane’s free from 65 metres out left a point between the sides and it was nothing more than Abbeydorney deserved after some good play.

A fantastic point from distance from Abbeydorney’s midfielder Tomás Ó hAiniféin put the sides level.

Then Michael Slattery made amends for his earlier miss with a fantastic goal to give Abbeydorney the lead 1-08 to 1-05.

Kilmoyley worked hard not to be phased by the onslaught from Abbeydorney and Daniel Collins calmed things with a point to leave two between them again.

After three minutes of additional time and a late point from each side, including Sean Maunsell’s first for Kilmoyley.

Abbeydorney went in at the break leading Kilmoyley 1-09 to 1-07.

Kilmoyley were fired up at the start of the second half and a brace of points from Daniel Collins levelled things at Austin Stack Park.

A poor miss from a PJ Keane free kept things all square a couple of minutes into the second half.

That was punished from the next Kilmoyley attack when their goal scorer Maurice O’Connor split the posts.
Kilmoyley back in the lead 1-10 to 1-09.

The purple patch was rewarded with another point to put Kilmoyley two points clear, while Abbeydorney were wasteful with a couple of chances at the other end.

Another PJ Keane miss from a free from 20 metres out at the Mitchells end kept two points between the sides.

Would Abbeydorney rue those few misses because Kilmoyley weren’t wasteful in the second half with Paudie O’Connor coming up from midfield and Maurice O’Connor to extend the lead to five points approaching the water break.

O’Dorney won a free when Jack Sheehan was pulled down outside the 45’ line and Michael Slattery took over the striking duties but his shot went wide.

Again, this was punished by another Daniel Collins free to leave it a six point game.

Kilmoyley 1-15 Abbeydorney 1-09.

PJ Keane finally scored Abbeydorney’s first point of the second half from a free and then a great block preventing another Maurice O’Connor goal gave hope to O’Dorney approaching the final stages.

That hope was short-lived when Maurice O’Connor who pointed from play to put six between the sides again.

The other goal scorer, Michael Slattery pointed from play for the men in black and amber making 1-16 to 1-11. Another Abbeydorney point reduced the gap to four points.

Paudie O’Connor halted the mini-Abbeydorney come-back with a point from midfield leaving 5 points in it with 3 minutes to go before stoppage time.

Abbeydorney needed a miracle from midway through the second half but they are more likely to happen in Lourdes rather than Austin Stack Park.

Another free from the hurley of Daniel Collins put paid to O’Dorney’s prayers.

Kilmoyley 1-18 Abbeydorney 1-12 heading into injury time.

Despite a melee towards the end and a red card for Abbeydorney’s Jack Sheehan, the last word on the scoreboard went to substitute Kieran McCarthy and Daniel Collins whose points confirmed Kilmoyley’s place in the Garvey’s Supervalu County Senior Hurling Final.

Michael Slattery was brought down in the Kilmoyley box but John B O’Halloran denied Slattery the chance to put some respectability on scoreline.

Final Score: Kilmoyley 1-20 Abbeydorney 1-12
