Team Flexachem KCYMS welcomed local rivals Tralee Warriors to the Killorglin Sports Complex on Saturday evening for their opening game of the 2025/26 Super League basketball season. With the Tralee side having beaten them at home and away last season, the home side were under no illusion about the task ahead.
The game tipped off at 7:15, with a two-point opening score from Eche Okeke. Warriors soon replied with a three-pointer from Eoin Quigley. Both teams showed rustiness in the opening quarter, with the home side shading it by 19 points to 15, with scores by Jordan Blount, Liam Croke, Emiliyan Grudov, and Rami for Team Flexachem, while Ishaard Hunt scored eight points for the Warriors. The second quarter saw Team Flexachem’s big center, Cameron Timmons, come back into the game after being rested early in the first due to a knock to his leg.
He contributed seven points to Killorglin’s cause, along with another eight points from Jordan Blount and a second three-pointer from Emiliyan Grudov, while on the Warriors side, Eoin Quigley notched up his second three-pointer and Ishaard Hunt scored another eleven points. By halftime, Team Flexachem had extended their lead on a scoreline of 44 to 29.
Both teams were guilty of a lot of fouling, and the game was far from free flowing. Remarkably, at this stage of the game, neither Daniel Jokubaitis, or Warriors American, Jordan Perkins had a score to their name, but that was soon corrected early in the third quarter when Daniel landed a three-pointer, quickly followed by a three from Perkins. Team Flexachem kept the scoreboard ticking over with scores from Jordan Blount, Eche Okeke, Cam Timmons, and Emiliyan Grudov.
Again in this quarter, a lot of fouling saw both teams getting scores from the free-throw line, and by the end of the third, the Warriors had reduced the home side’s lead to eleven, with a scoreline of 64 to 53. The fourth quarter was again marred by a lot of fouling and stop/start play, with Team Flexachem seeing out the game with a win and a final score of 83 to 76.
Best on the night for Team Flexachem was Jordan Blount with 26 points, while on the Warriors side, Ishaard Hunt scored 22. Team Flexachem’s next game is away to reigning Super League champions UCC Demons next Sunday at the Mardyke Arena, with tip-off for that one at 3 o’clock."
