Kerry jockey Jack Kennedy was back in the winners’ enclosure at the Cheltenham Festival as he guided Wodhooh to victory in the Close Brothers Mares’ Hurdle.
The Gordon Elliott-trained six-year-old went off the 5/6 favourite and justified that support with a strong performance up the Cheltenham hill.
Wodhooh had already shown impressive form this season and Kennedy produced a confident ride to hold off last year’s runner-up Jade De Grugy in the closing stages.
The victory provided a welcome boost for Elliott after a frustrating opening two days of the festival.
It also marked another notable Cheltenham success for Dingle native Kennedy, who continues to be one of the leading Irish riders at the meeting.
