5th after 500 metres, the pair were in that same position at the halfway stage, just 2 seconds off 3rd place.
At the finish Hyde and Bergin were 4 seconds from a top 3 spot.
New Zealand won the semi final, ahead of Netherlands, with France also qualifying.
Hyde and Bergin go into the B final on Thursday.

They'll go for a medal in Thursday's final.
The women's four of Emily Hegarty, Natalie Long, Eimear Lambe and Imogen Magner missed out on a place in the final after coming fourth in the repechage.
Jennifer Lehane was outclassed by a more experienced boxer on her Olympic debut.
The 25-year-old from Ashbourne was beaten on a unanimous decision by China's Chang Yuan in the bantamweight division.
Speaking after the round-of-sixteen bout, Lehane said she'd take time to think about competing at the LA Games.
Ireland's next boxer in the ring will be featherweight - Jude Gallagher - tomorrow afternoon.
