Jack Kennedy rode his first double since returning from injury when sharing two winners with Gordon Elliott at Downpatrick on Monday. The pair won the two- and three-quarter-mile maiden hurdle with the Ronnie Bartlett-owned Jazz De Cotte. The 6/5 favourite led on the uphill run to the line to win by a length from Willam Harvey’s Midnight Moonshine. Elliott and Kennedy also took the concluding near three-mile handicap chase with the 6/1 chance Thehairyfella. The Derek Barry-owned 10-year-old led well before halfway and just held the late rally of Noel Kelly’s 10/11 favourite Our Zebo by a head.
The former champion jockey bounced back from a fall at the course on Thursday to win the near three-mile mares’ maiden hurdle on the Elliott-trained Neon Diamond at Killarney the following afternoon. Owned by Liam Clancy, the 11/4 joint-favourite went clear on the run-in to win by all of nine lengths from the Cian Collins-trained 7/2 chance Jetaway Nana for her second career success.
