Kerry have been promoted to Division 1B of the Allianz Hurling League.
They overcame Meath in Trim by 2-18 to 0-18 to also book their place in next weekend’s final.
Kerry led 2 points to no score after 6 minutes; the scores coming from Ronan Walsh and Kevin Goulding. Walsh put over again before Meath registered their first point in the 10th minute. After Kerry had their third wide they were awarded a penalty, which was duly dispatched by Ronan Walsh. The incident also led to a Meath black card. That goal made it 1-3 to 0-1. Meath had the next 2 points. Colin Walsh had Kerry 4 clear with a 19th minute point; 1-4 to 0-3. After Meath pointed, Jason Diggins extended the Kerry lead further with a point. Again Meath pointed; 1-5 to 0-5; and they had the next point too. Jordan Brick pointed Kerry 3 clear. Sub Padraig Boyle marked his introduction with a point and Kerry were 4 clear after half an hour; 1-7 to 0-6. Boyle had come in for the injured Oisin Maunsell. Fellow sub Liam Og O'Connor, who came on for Daniel Casey, then pointed. James O'Connor and Ronan Walsh also tagged on points and suddenly the Kingdom were 7 up at 1-10 to 0-6. At the break Kerry were ahead by 1-12 to 0-8.
After Meath had the first point of the second half, Kerry responded with a Tom Doyle goal. It was 2-14 to 0-14 after 47 minutes, Meath's cause not helped by a red card. With quarter of an hour to go it was 2-15 to 0-15. Entering 3 added on minutes Kerry were ahead 2-17 to 0-16. Meath had the next two points. A Colin Walsh point meant Kerry won by 6.
