County U16 Strokeplay
Last Saturday event in Listowel saw a new winner of the Boys event as Deerpark’s Aodhan O’Halloran shot a winning score of four under par, three ahead of Joey Blake from Tralee who won the U13 section with his score of one under. The U16 section was won by Diarmuid Lyons from the host club with 112 on countback from Deerpark’s Fionn O’Callaghan as another Deerpark player in Fionn McMonagle was third on 117.
In the U13 section Ryan Deady of Listowel was second behind Joey Blake on 114 while Sean Stacks from the hosts was third on 120. The Girls section meanwhile saw Shona Griffin from the hosts retain her title from Mary Walsh with Sarah Walsh (both Listowel) in third. Well done to all our prizewinners as the event also served as the final trial for our Munster U16 Inter-County teams for the event in Fermoy at the end of the month. The Kerry Gold team will be made up of Deerpark members Aodhan O’Halloran (captain), Fionn Mac Monagle and Daniel Quinlan along with Tralee’s Joey Blake as the Green team will be captained by Deerpark’s Fionn O’Callaghan along with Listowel trio Sean Stack, Sean Keane and Ryan Deady.
Our thanks to our U16 officers Tom O’Connor and Monty Galvin for their work over the last two weeks with the team trials.
Elsewhere one event which unfortunately slipped through two stools for mention last week was the Bob Casey Memorial Inter-Club Strokeplay which concluded on June 23rd last and saw Tralee ‘Yellow’ reclaim the title for the club ahead of Listowel in second and Deerpark ‘Green’ in third. Individual honours went to Michael Conway (Tralee, Senior Mens), Ajay Barrett (Listowel, Intermediate Mens), James Foley (Deerpark, Junior Mens) and Eileen McCarthy (Deerpark, Ladies) as we thank all who took part in June this year.
This weekend sees the Irish Open in Pitch & Putt take place in Portmarnock in Dublin with Kerry entries in both the Adult and U16 events. Of the Kerry entries the most noteworthy is that of Deerpark’s Damien Fleming who is taking part in the event for the first time since the last of his three successes in the competition in Seapoint in Louth back in 2018. We wish all the Kerry players taking part the very best of luck this weekend.
