Kerry pitch and putt review

Jason O’Connor reports

The first provincial Pitch & Putt competition of the year resulted in a Kerry 1-2 on Saturday in Riverdale, Nenagh, Co Tipperary as Tralee siblings Jamie and Charlotte Blake were victorious in the Munster Mixed Scotch Foursomes, one ahead of Deerpark duo Connie O’Sullivan Jnr and Eileen McCarthy in second.

Jamie was a winner of the Non-Mixed Section with his father Tony two years ago as he also won a prize with Charlotte in the Mixed event that year. On this occasion both Charlotte and himself won Saturday’s Mixed event with a score of 18up, one ahead of Connie and Eileen’s total of 17up. Two 9up rounds gave the Tralee pair their win as while Connie and Eileen also had 9up in their First 18 they could only manage 8up second time around. On a day when Kerry dominated the podium the pair of Alan and Catriona O’Connor finished on 13up with Jason and Bernadette O’Regan scoring 10up.

Sunday’s Non-Mixed event saw only one the three entered Kerry pairs take part as Mark Lucey and Alan O’Connor combined for 17up six shots off the winning score of 23up. The County Board congratulate both Jamie and Charlotte on their success last Sunday. The Nationals of this format are due to take place in Castleisland in October.

This weekend sees the first major Singles event of the year; the County Matchplay Championships take place in Castleisland on Sunday as full details will be with clubs by the weekend.

A reminder to all players that the event is dress code.
