Kerry hurlers win at Meath

Kerry have won away to Meath in the Christy Ring Cup.

The Kingdom prevailed in Trim by 3-17 to 0-12.

Kerry's Liam Og O'Connor had the first point of the encounter, with both sides registering 2 early wides. Tom Doyle doubled the Kingdom advantage, Jordan Brick then putting Kerry 3 ahead. Meath had their first point in the 8th minute. 2 Ronan Walsh points, with Evan Murphy also on target, increased the advantage to 6 points to 1. Kerry led 0-10 to 0-2 after 20 minutes. Meath got it back to 0-11 to 0-6 by the half hour mark. A Kevin Goulding goal gave Kerry breathing space once more. The Kingdom led by 1-14 to 6 points at half time.

Play was interrupted early in the second half due to a hailstone shower. Upon resumption, Kerry were awarded a penalty for a foul on Liam Og O'Connor. Meath keeper Gavin King was subsequently black carded for denying a goalscoring opportunity. The sub keeper Philip O'Brien saved Ronan Walsh's penalty, but Padraig Boyle netted the rebound. However, following consultations between the officials this was disallowed. Ronan Walsh frees kept the scoreboard ticking over for Kerry in a low scoring period. Those made it 1-16 to 0-9. A second Kerry goal of the day, scored by Jordan Brick, increased that advantage. Michael Slattery added a third Kerry goal in added on time.
