Kerry 2-2 Meath 2-12
Meath made the long journey to Kerry worthwhile as they claimed victory in Round 2 of the All-Ireland camogie championship, overcoming difficult, rain-soaked conditions to record a 2-12 to 2-2 win.
The visitors made a blistering start, striking 1-3 inside the opening five minutes. They maintained the early momentum with two further points before Kerry eventually found their rhythm. A well-taken goal from midfielder Kelly Forristal opened the home side’s account, and Anna Chute followed up with a pointed free to lift spirits.
However, Meath finished the half strongly, adding a couple more points to go in at the break leading 1-8 to 1-1.
The second half was far more evenly contested. Meath opened with a couple of early points from placed balls, but a perfectly timed goal from full forward Holly Boyle, followed by another pointed free by Anna Chute, reduced the deficit to four points, and briefly raised hopes of a comeback. Meath, however responded decisively, adding two points without reply before putting the result beyond doubt with a late goal.
In the end, the visitors’ blistering start and efficient finishing proved the difference as they secured a deserved 2-12 to 2-2 victory.
Focus for Kerry now turns to the refixed round 1 game away to Roscommon on this Saturday March 7th.
