Reenard 0-11 Moyvane 1-7
Renard and Moyvane met with both teams hoping and needing a win. Renard got the first attack from the throw – in but the ball was sent wide by Conor O’Leary. Renard collected the kickout from Joe Coulson in the Moyvane goal and worked well as a team to set up Donagh Quinlan for the first point of the game. This was followed by another Renard point from Eoghan McCrohan in the 5th minute. Sean Teahan pointed a free in the 7 th minute after Eoghan McCrohan made a good run through the Moyvane defence before being fouled. Once again Renard caught the kickout from Joe Coulson and Robert Wharton kicked the ball high, from a long distance out and pointed nicely for Renard. Killian Young received the resulting kickout and worked well with Conor O’Leary who added a further point for the hosts. In the 11 th minute Donagh Quinlan pointed a free after Killian Young was fouled while on the run. This was followed by more good teamwork from Renard who found Sean Teahan in the corner and despite being under pressure from the Moyvane defence and being in a difficult angle; Sean Teahan managed to pop the ball nicely over the bar for a point for Renard. In the 13th minute Martin Stack pointed a free for Moyvane for their first score of the game. Martin Stack made a great run through the Renard defence but was fouled in the process. Martin Stack pointed his resulting free. Moyvane got the ball from the Renard kickout and worked the ball quickly up the field to set up Liam Greaney who unfortunately sent the ball wide. Moyvane started playing very well together and went on attack after attack at the Renard defence but the Renard back – line never laid down and kept breaking down the powerful Moyvane attacks. From this great Renard defending Renard set up Conor O’Leary in the 27 th minute but sadly the ball veered wide of the posts. Moyvane went on another great attack and Martin Stack pointed a free after their attack led to a free being given away by the Renard defence. Jim Sugrue attempted a free for Renard in the 31 st minute after good Renard passing but it wasn’t to be and the ball went wide. This ended the first half on a scoreline of Renard: 0 – 07 Moyvane: 0 – 03.

Moyvane started the second half with an attack but great defending by Alan Curran ensured Shane Stack sent the ball wide. Pa McGill kicked out the ball and set up the rest of the Renard team who played very well to set up Robert Wharton who placed the ball neatly over the bar. This was followed by a powerful run down the field from
Martin Stack and after being fouled mid – run he pointed the resulting free. Martin Stack attempted a free from the half – way line but the ball went wide of the post. In the 41 st minute Moyvane attacked again and very strong defending from Ronan Quinlan resulted in a free being given to Moyvane, which Martin Stack sent just wide of the goal. A few moments later Moyvane got another free which Martin Stack took quickly and set up Michéal Fogarty who added a point for Moyvane. Killian Young received the kickout from Pa McGill and went on the run before being fouled. Jim Sugrue sent the resulting free wide. From Joe Coulson’s kickout Moyvane went on the attack once again and Michéal Fogarty scored another point. Renard replied by attacking straight away but tight defending by Moyvane ensured Killian Young sent the ball wide. Renard won the kickout from Joe Coulson and Killian Young went on a good run the Moyvane defence before getting fouled enroute. Kevin Curran pointed the resulting free. Martin Stack replied with a pointed free for Moyvane in the 52 nd
minute. Straight from the Renard kickout Moyvane went on the attack and after the ball fell loose, Colin Enright powerfully struck it and fired it into the back of the Renard net. Moyvane were now in the lead for the first time throughout the game. Renard responded well and Kevin Curran pointed another free for Renard to even the score. Moyvane tried to go one ahead again but strong defending by Brendan Kelly made Martin Stack send the ball wide. This was followed by a Renard wide from Donagh Quinlan in the 62 nd minute. The game is still all level coming into the last few remaining minutes but both teams remained calm and tried to get over the finish line.
Renard worked the ball well around the field and Killian Young found a pocket through the Moyvane defence and popped the ball straight through the posts. This put Renard one point ahead. Moyvane attacked one last time but it wasn’t to be as Timmy Noonan sent the ball just wide of the post.

Asdee 1-5 Duagh 4-11

If this impressive display by Duagh is an indication of the club’s intent to win this grade then they are on the right track as they had too much power and accuracy for a disappointing and undisciplined Asdee side. Along with the sending off of midfielder Kieran Kelly in the 7th minute of the second half; they gave away too many frees with the opposition taking full advantage and long before the sound of George O Donnells final whistle this game was over as a contest. Led and inspired by centre forward Martin Scannell, who roamed the field, along with Ted Moloney, Jason Carmody and Dan O Donoghue they just toyed with the opposition and were in complete control throughout. The game got underway with accidental clashes which led to an 8 minute injury time at the end of the half. Jason Carmody opened the scoring with a neat point from a free which was followed by similar scores through Martin Scanlon, Nigel O Connor, Dan O Donoghue, with Darragh Keane kicking over a free after 11 minutes. A minute later Asdee were thrown a lifeline when they were awarded a penalty and Eoin Tydings made no mistake from the spot kick, leaving the sides all square. However that was as good as it gets as the home side took over and Jason Carmody, Nigel O Connor and a cracking goal from Martin Scanlon left the half time score; Duagh 1-7 Asdee 1-1.

Paul O Carroll got a point back for Asdee in the 4th minute but again a ragged defence saw wing back Ted Moloney soccer style to the net. Darragh Keane and 2 punched points by Anthony Maher saw the teams retire for the water break. Duagh had used their bench up as we approached the final 12 minutes. Kieran Buckley and Donnagh Maher struck for further goals with Ted Moloney and Dan O Donoghue kicking points, with Asdees reply coming from Darren Russell and Darragh Keane. In fairness Eoin Tydings, Eoin Kennedy, Darragh Keane, Darren Russell, and goalkeeper Ryan Henry, who made two spectacular saves at point blank range, couldn’t be faulted for effort.

Cordal 0-9 Scartaglen 0-9
Cordal and near neighbours Scartaglen finished in stalemate with a Brian Reidy free to level matters.
The game got underway with Eddie Horan opening the scoring with a wonderful point in the 2nd minute from 30yards, before a Philip O Connor free to level matters shortly after. The first half was free ridden due to weather conditions and aggressive defending by both teams. 2 points from frees from Eddie Horan and one from Shay Walsh, with Cordal replying with points from Philip O Conner, 3, and a T J O Conner free, left it 0-5 to 0-5 at half time.

On resumption black cards, yellow cards and red Cards seemed the order of this half, but it was by no means a dirty game. This 30 minutes started with Tom Forde, Sean Horan, Mark O Donoghue and Kieran O Donoghue getting sin binned at different periods with Kieran and Sean getting 2nd blacks near end of the game. Philip O Conner started the 2nd half scoring with a fantastic point and then a free to put Cordal up 0-7 to 0-5. However, 2 Shay Walsh frees and a reintroduction of Tom Forde with a point made it 0-8 to 0-7 to Scartaglen. Micheal Cahill brought on Sean Walsh, who made a difference straight away, scoring the best point of the game. Another Shay Walsh free looked like the winner for Scartaglen with 5 minutes to go. However, that Brian Reidy free made it a draw at the final whistle. Overall a draw was a fair result with both clubs still in the reckoning.

Beale 4-10 Valentia 2-9

Penalties and goals were the order of the day in Valentia on Sunday, six goals and 3 penalties. Played in ideal conditions, Beale were seven points to the good at the final whistle.
The visitors were first off the mark in the opening minute with a pointed free and Valentia replied with another free. Darragh Buckley converted a penalty in the seventh minute and gave us a 1-2 to 0-1 cushion. Wing forward, Johnny O’Sullivan was en route for goal when pulled to the ground. The teams exchanged points and frees from Cormac Linnane and Ger O’Gorman stretched the lead to by 1-5 to 0-3. Valentia raised the green flag from the penalty spot from Andy Quigley to reduce the lead to just two points. Beale replied with a pointed free by Gorman. Beale were dominating midfield and had most possession. The forwards were flying it and those young wing forwards, Conor Toomey and Johnny O’Sullivan, both struck the net in the second quarter. In truth, had the Seasiders made more of their possession, they should have been further ahead. The scoreboard read 3-8 to 1-7 in Beales favour at the short whistle.

Valentia really came alive on the changeover but had nothing to show from three scoring opportunities. They finally registered the first point of the half in the tenth minute and quickly followed with another. The teams exchanged points and when Valentia rattled the net this time from Stephen Sheehan it left just a goal between the teams. Darragh Buckley scored his second penalty as the clock ticked and sealed victory for Beale. Jim Lynch, Paul Curtin and John Shannaghan were also on the score list.
Best for Beale were Conor Toomey and Johnny O’Sullivan in the first half, along with Cormac Linnane and Darragh Buckley and Jeremy King.

Beale lined out as: Seán Dee, Jeremy King, John Griffin, Killian Walsh-O’Boyle, Seamie O’Sullivan, Diarmuid O’Mahony, Fionnán Toomey, Neilus Mulvihill, Phillie Blake, Johnny O’Sullivan, Ger O’Gorman, Conor Toomey, Eric Daly, Cormac Linnane, and Darragh Buckley. Substitutes: Tom Joy for Eric Daly (inj), Ian Mannix for Johnny O’Sullivan, Paul Collins for John Griffin, Barry O’Neill for Ger O’Gorman, Bernard O’Callaghan for Seamie O’Sullivan (inj), Tommy O’Neill, Fintan Linnane, Cathal Farrell, Daniel Hayes, Rory Mulvihill, Jack O’ Sullivan, Jake O’Connell, Cillian Courtney, Conor Breen, Shane Hanrahan, Callum McSweeney and Aaron Kelly.

Sneem/Derrynane 0-6 Annascaul 7-24
The pace of this game was fast and Annascaul were quick off the mark with scores, with an opening point from James Crean. Fintan Herlihy was the scorer of Annascaul’s first goal, which was quickly followed by one from Killian Falvey. Cathal Ferriter also found the back of the net in the fifteenth minute. Sneem/Derrynane recorded their first score in the twentieth minute, with a point from Ciaran O’Sullivan, however James Crean was quick to reply with his second goal of the day. The half time score was 4-10 to 1 point.
Annascaul started strong in the second half with an early goal from sub Aiden Crean.

Sneem/Derrynane’s second point of the game came shortly after, from Morgan O’Donoghue, with further points from Ian Galvin and Jack Riney. While Sneem/Derrynane played with more intensity in the second half and converted more chances to scores, the scoring the gap was too much to close. Annascaul got two further goals, both from the Crean brothers, who scored 2-6 each. Overall, this was a fast, clean game, with the hosts in control from the beginning.

Castlegregory GAA Club 2 1 1 0 39 30 9 3
Lispole 2 0 1 1 27 42 -15 1
Cromane 2 0 0 2 24 34 -10 0

Tarbert 1-9 Cromane 1-8
Cromane fell to their second defeat in this year’s Championship in agonising fashion in a wet Cromane.
The summer monsoon made conditions tough for both sides but it was a blood and guts championship encounter. Cromane got out of the blocks first with a Darren Houlihan free but then Tarbert went on to dominate the next 10 minutes, at the end of which they led by 1-2 to 0-2 thanks to a 10th minute Micheál Normile goal, with Andrew Doherty and Cillian Langan adding points.
Cromane battled back and a goal from Sean O’Sullivan, pouncing on a dropping ball in the Tarbert square to fist to the net, levelled matters after 12 minutes. The scoring rate then dropped dramatically as sheets of rain engulfed the Cromane pitch. The effort didn’t drop however and both sets of backs got on top with great blocks, and dispossessions were the order of the second quarter. Sean O’Sullivan and Cillian Langan swopped two frees each to leave the half time score: Cromane 1-4, Tarbert 1-4.

Cromane came out in the second half a different animal and proceeded to dominate for the next 25 minutes. It was in this period where they should have reflected their dominance on the scoreboard. All they had were four points in this period but three were terrific scores. First, Darren Houlihan, in the 31st and 35th minutes, split the posts, one sent over with the outside of the left and the other finished after a lung-busting run. A Darren Houlihan free put Cromane ahead 1-7 to 1-4 after 45 minutes. Tarbert finally opened their second-half account with another Langan free before Cathal Crosby split the posts with a lovely outside of the right effort in the 55th minute. Cromane were in a good spot, but those early second-half misses left Tarbert in the game. The Shannonsiders took full advantage of this encouragement, kicking the last four scores as Danny Wren and Mark Buckley thundered into the game. Two of these scores were excellent efforts from half-time substitute Ger O’Sullivan; one swung over from way out on the right. Tarbert's scorer-in-chief Cillian Langan then kicked the crucial winner in injury time to earn Tarbert their second win in the group.

Lispole 2-11 Castlegregory GAA Club 1-14

Hosts Lios Póil started strongly with Tomás Ó Cíobháin getting the opening score and goal of the game. Three points from Caisleáin Ghriaire levelled matters two of the points coming from Séamus Ó Ghráda. Following the water break it was Lios Póil who rattled over the next three points, before a goal by the hosts left the scoreline 2:05 to 0:04. From here until the halftime whistle Caisleáin Ghriaire answered back and by half time it was 2:05 to 0:08 for Lios Póil.

A positive start for the hosts ensured that at one stage they led by 6 points only for Caisleáin Ghriaire to chip away at the gap. Séamus Ó Ghráda scored when the chances came and a late goal Pádraig Ó Donnuchú to leave the game level. Castlegregory controversially drew level with Lispole after being 7pts down with 7mts to go when a point from a free was disallowed. The castle team showed great heart and character to draw level in the end with great work from the Castle substitutes; Shane Kenny, Jason Griffin, Maurice Slattery and goal scorer Patrick O Donoghue.
