IRFU confirm summers tests against US and Japan

The IRFU have confirmed they will take on both the USA and Japan in summer test matches this July.

After their proposed tour of Fiji was scrapped due to the Covid-19 pandemic, both games will be played at the Aviva Sadium.

USA head coach Gary Gold confirmed last week his side would travel to face Ireland on Saturday July 10th.

And the IRFU this morning confirmed they would also take on Japan, that game on Saturday July 3rd in Dublin.

The Six Nations looks set to remain on free-to-air TV in Ireland.

Tournament organisers say they have agreed the principles of a joint bid between Virgin Media and RTE for the broadcast rights of the men's, women's and under 20 tournaments.

It had been feared the broadcast rights would be put behind a paywall following heavy investment from private equity form CVC Capital Partners.

However and unprecedented joint bid by Virgin Media and RTE has been confirmed by Six Nations management, in what would be a "multi-year deal".
