Gordon Elliott added to two wins at Downpatrick earlier in the day when the Jack Kennedy-ridden King Of Kingsfield easily landed the two-mile one-furlong conditions’ chase at Ballinrobe on Monday evening. A strong 4/7 favourite in the colours of Gigginstown House Stud, the seven-year-old led after the third-last fence and even allowing for a mistake at the last, he still beat John Ryan’s The Dara Man by an easy eight lengths. Gordon Elliott’s winners at Downpatrick were the Danny Gilligan-ridden 15/2 shot Penny Perfect and the 13/8 favourite Speculatrix, ridden by Kevin Sexton.
Kennedy and Elliott were on the mark again as the 5/4 favourite Coutach scored a narrow success in the two and a half-mile maiden hurdle at Down Royal on Friday evening. Owned by Paul Byrne, the four-year-old arrived with his challenge after the final hurdle and he led close to the finish to pip James Nash’s front-running 9/1 chance Hobart by a shorthead.
