Flexachem lose at Ballincollig

In the Dominos Men’s Super League Team Flexachem lost 107-80 away to Ballincollig.

With Killorglin's Marquez Ellis getting early scores, he went on to have a good opening quarter scoring ten points in the process but Ballincollig's Josh Steel and Latavious Mitchell also scored well. That, along with threes from Adrian O'Sullivan and Alberto Rodriguez, saw the Cork side ahead at the end of the first period 26 to 19.

Flexachem's player/coach Declan Wall got an opening three early in the second to reduce the deficit to four but then Ballincollig went on a ten to zero run to lead by 14. However Killorglin hit back with scores from Ellis, Rami Ghanhem and Liam Croke. Jordan Blount then hit a big three pointer right on the half time buzzer to reduce the Cork sides lead to three at 46 to 43.

Early in the third quarter Eche Okeke picked up his fourth foul and he was on tender hooks for the remainder of the game. With a good spread of scoring by Ballincollig, they went on to dominate the period and faced into the final quarter with a seven point lead at 72 to 65.

The Cork side outscored Killorglin by fifteen to eight in the first five minutes of the final period. Then Killorglin's Marquez Ellis was fouled out, this allowed Ballincollig's American Latavious Mitchell to run riot and with no Ellis to keep him in check, Mitchell added on another nine points to give Ballincollig a big win on a final score of 107 to 80.

Top scorers for Killorglin were Ellis and Okeke on twenty points each while for Ballincollig Mitchell had 27 and Josh Steel had 22.

This loss for Team Flexachem now has them locked in a fight for Superleague survival due to Neptune's win over the Warriors on Saturday evening.

With only two rounds left in the league, Killorglin will have to win at least one if not two of those games which are both away. On Wednesday they face Tralee Warriors and next Saturday they play Limerick Celtics.

After eight seasons in the top flight of Irish basketball, a defining week is in store for Team Flexachem KCYMS.
