Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly’s confirmed the government is working towards giving elite sports people special travel exemptions.
Ireland’s meeting with France in the Women’s Six Nations, as well as Leinster’s Heineken Champions Cup semi-final with La Rochelle had been cast into doubt.
France was last week added to the list of countries where mandatory quarantine is required upon entry to Ireland.
But Minister Donnelly says elite and professional athletes are to be given a reprieve.
