The Carrick-on-Suir rider won today’s 10th stage in a sprint into Saint-Martin-de-Ré.

His victory is enough to wrestle the sprinters’ green jersey away from Peter Sagan.

Primoz Roglic retains the overall leader’s yellow jersey.

Bennett is just the sixth Irish rider to claim a Tour de France stage, and he found the enormity of his achievement difficult to process
