Scott McCullagh, son of Niall, scored a notable winner as Ramiro took the apprentices' handicap at the Curragh on Friday for trainer Ian O'Connor, based in Killarney. O'Connor was running the horse for the first time since it left John Murphy. Afterwards McCullagh commented: "The change of scenery probably did the trick on him. Ian hasn’t had him that long but was very confident beforehand."
Tralee rider Bryan Cooper is having a nice run and he steered The Sliding Rock to a 7-2 success for trainer Gordon Elliott in the opening race at Wexford Saturday, the first division of the mares' maiden hurdle. And later on the card, Dingle rider Paddy Kennedy got a good tune out of Rapid Response, an easy winner of the staying beginners' chase for trainer Jessica Harrington at odds of 7-4.
