RUGBY

Irish lock James Ryan will face a race against time to be fit for Ireland's two remaining Six Nations games later this year.

Andy Farrell's side is due to take on Italy on 24 October and France a week later, to conclude the tournament that was postponed back in March due to the spread of Covid-19.

Leinster head coach Leo Cullen issued a squad update today and the 24-year-old is set to be out for up to three months.

He requires 10-12 weeks to recover from shoulder surgery.

The update also revealed that Adam Byrne is set to be out of action for up to three months as well.

The 26-year-old winger has suffered a hamstring injury and is due to have a procedure on it this week.

SOCCER

A minute's silence will be held before Derry City's SSE Airtricity Premier Division game against St. Pat's this evening.

Hume, who passed away this morning, had been president of the club for the past 21 years.

Kick-off in Inchicore is at 7.45.

There are two games as well in the First Division - Bray Wanderers visit Longford Town at half past seven, and Galway United host rock-bottom Athlone Town from 7.45.

Tomorrow evening's Premier Division game between Sligo Rovers and Waterford FC has been postponed.

This comes as a Waterford player showed flu-like symptoms today and the club is waiting for a Covid-19 test result.

In the Scottish Premiership, Motherwell travel to Ross County this evening where there's a 7.45 start.

SNOOKER

Shaun Murphy has gotten his tournament underway at the World Snooker Championship at the Crucible in Sheffield.

The 2005 World Champion trails Noppon Saengkham 4-frames-to-1.

Antrim's Jordan Brown is in action in the evening session from 7pm against three-time world champion Mark Selby.

RACING

An eight flat race card is taking place at Naas.

16-to-1 shot Miss Amulet, who's trained by Ken Condon won the feature of the day - the Marwell Stakes.

While in Roscommon a seven race jumps card has been taking place throughout the afternoon.

The Declan Queally trained Western Victory claimed the feature there - the Mares Steeplechase.
