The final of the East Kerry Senior Football Championship, Sponsored by Gleneagle Hotel, Gleneagle Leisure and Dr O Donoghue’s Family, has been won by Dr.Crokes.
At Fitzgerald Stadium they defeated Rathmore 1-15 to 0-16 after extra time.
After Tony Brosnan opened the scoring with a point for Crokes, a Shane Ryan 2 pointer had Rathmore in front. Rathmore led 3-2 after 13 minutes. Shane Ryan then doubled their advantage.
Scores from Micheal Burns and Tony Brosnan brought Crokes level. That made it 4 all after 23 minutes. Micheal Burns then goaled to give Crokes the lead. Tony Brosnan continued the Crokes scoring spree to give them a 1-5 to 0-4 advantage. At the break Crokes were ahead by 2 at 1-5 to 0-6.
Rathmore had two points in as many minutes at the start of the second half to draw level. Both of those were scored by Brian Friel. A Tony Brosnan 2 pointer had Crokes out in front once more; 1-7 to 0-8 after 33 minutes. Three minutes later a Billy Courtney 2 pointer doubled the Crokes lead. Crokes then made it a hat trick of two pointers as Tony Brosnan made it 1-11 to 0-8 after 42 minutes. Rathmore had the next 4 points to move within 2 at 1-11 to 0-12 after 46 minutes. Shane Ryan had the chance to bring Rathmore level but his 2 point attempt fell short. Ryan did point 11 minutes from time to bring Rathmore within 1 at 1-11 to 0-13. Rathmore's Ciaran Collins was red carded in the 57th minuteThe next score did not arrive until after the hooter, Rathmore's Cathal Ryan equalising to send the game to extra time.
Shane Ryan got the first point of extra time, nudging Rathmore ahead. Crokes meanwhile could only manage 2 wides. Micheal Burns brought Crokes level just before half time.
At the start of the second period Brian Looney pointed Crokes ahead. Cian Dineen had Rathmore on terms in the 4th minute of the half. Michel Burns edged Crokes in front with 4 minutes to go. Tony Brosnan doubled that advantage, that point closing out the scoring.
