Kerry’s Liam Dowling kept local hopes alive at Shelbourne Park on Saturday night as Ballymac Stud delivered a commanding performance to win Heat 5 of the BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby third round.
After showing eye-catching form in earlier rounds, Ballymac Stud produced his most impressive display yet. Breaking smartly and showing superb early pace, the son of Droopys Sydney and Ballymac Pete quickly took control, opening up a decisive lead before holding off the late challenge of Lennies Dream to win in a fast 29.37.
Derek Frehill, Director of Racing with GRI said, " Ballymac Stud is still a young greyhound, but he’s maturing with every run. To see him produce that kind of pace and determination at this stage of the competition is very encouraging.”
The third round was packed with high-quality action, with the epic duel between Proper Heiress and Cheap Sandwiches in Heat 3 stealing the headlines. Other notable winners included Unanimous Leo, Singalong Curly, Shanahee Boomer, Droopys Deploy, Cheque For Cash, and Magical Mag.
With Ballymac Stud progressing strongly and carrying Kerry hopes into the quarter-finals, local racing fans will be watching closely as the battle for greyhound racing’s most prestigious title intensifies.
