Double-bogeys hit McIlroy bid

Rory McIlroy double-bogeyed both 15 and 17 to leave his chances of donning the famous Green Jacket in tatters last night.

The World Number Two had made a positive start to his opening round of the Masters before disaster struck late on in the back 9.

That leaves the 4-time major winner level par, 7 shots behind early leader Justin Rose, who himself is three shots clear of the field.

Shane Lowry carded a 1-under-par round of 71 to leave the Offaly native 6 off the lead.

McIlroy is back on course just before 3, whilst Lowry is out 15 minutes later.
