Kerry went down away to Laois in the Joe McDonagh Cup, by 5-28 to 1-21.

The home side had the stronger start, scoring 1-1 without reply in the first 3 minutes. Kevin Goulding then had the first Kerry point and 3 in a row from Shane Nolan had the Kingdom level at 0-4 to 1-1 after 8 minutes. Laois had the next 5 points to go 5 clear after 14 minutes. Laois made it 2-10 to 0-4 in the 21st minute and James Duggan had his hat trick of goals after 23 minutes. Duggan netted twice more before the break. At half time Laois were ahead by 5-12 to 0-9.

The pace eased up in the second half, Laois leading 5-17 to 0-12 after 49 minutes and 5-22 to 0-16 with 11 minutes to go. Laois won by 19 after a late Kerry goal from Killian Hayes.
