Glenbeigh-Glencar maintained their position at the top of the table with a hard-earned win over near rivals Laune Rangers at their home grounds in an entertaining and high-quality contest.
The hosts held a 1-5 to 0-6 lead at the break, with Caolim Teahan’s well-taken goal proving the difference after a half in which midfielders Colin McGillycuddy and Fionn O’Sullivan established a strong platform. Cian Knight made an excellent first half save to keep the visitors at bay
Laune Rangers responded well in the second half and kept the pressure on throughout, with John Tyther leading the charge and finishing with 1-7, including a second-half penalty which led to an exciting finish to the game.
However, Glenbeigh-Glencar regained control at key stages, with Fionn O’Sullivan adding a second goal with a flick from a speculative ball by young Tadhg O'Sullivan that went through the legs of the helpless Jason Browne in goals.
Gavan O’Grady delivered an outstanding scoring display. O’Grady finished with 0-13, including four excellent two-pointers from distance off the ground. The 4th one was the pick of the bunch off the left well outside the arc.
Despite sustained pressure from the visitors, the Glenbeigh-Glencar defence, led by Pa Kilkenny, held firm to secure a deserved victory.
