Kerry were represented in the ladies competitions. MKL Gaels and Clounmacon / Moyvane competed in the ladies senior cup. Corca Dhuibhne Ladies and Annascaul / Castlegregory competed in the ladies intermediate cup while Daingean Uí Chúis LGFA competed in the ladies junior cup.

In the junior cup, Dingle Ladies beat Breaffy of Mayo in the straight semi-final by 2-2 to 1-4 while Longford’s Colmcilles beat Meath’s Blackhall Gaels by 3-12 to 0-1 to make it a Longford v Kerry final. At half time in the final the Dingle ladies trailed by 1-0 to 0-6 points but, with the aid of a strong wind, they could not keep up with the Longford ladies superior scoring power as they powered to a 1-10 to 1-2 victory.

In the Intermediate ladies cup, Kerry’s Corca Dhuibhne beat Achill Island of Mayo by 3-10 to 2-6 to reach the final while Annascaul/ Castlegregory lost to Templemore of Tipperary on a score line of 6-16 to 5-6. Corca Duibhne led in the final by 4-2 to 1-7 at half time and the teams were neck and neck right through the second half. Despite a stand-out performance from the local side’s Erica McGlynn, the West Kerry girls lost by a single point on a scoreline of Corca Duibhne 6-4 to Templemore of Tipperary’s 4-11. Annascaul/Castlegregory did get to play in a runners-up final which they lost after extra-time to Mayo’s Achill by 3-9 to 3-5.

In ladies senior cup there was two Kerry side involved. Clounmacon / Moyvane lost to Kilmacud Crokes of Dublin in the straight semi-final by 1-4 to 1-6 down in Castlegregory GAA pitch.

On the other side of the group, MKL Gaels drew to Burren Gael’s of Clare 0-6 to 1-3 and after extra time the sides still could not be separated, ending on a score of 0-7 to 1-4. So it was then down to a novel shoot-out of three 25 yard frees for each team in which the Clare girls shot 3-in-a-row to MKL’s one free

In the men’s senior cup and intermediate cups there was no Kerry sides but there was some good quality football played out. In the Dermot Earley men’s senior cup played in Lispole GAA pitch, the first semi-final saw Cork’s Carrigaline beat St. Faithleach of Roscommon by 2-8 to 0-5. In the other semi-final, Milltown of Galway beat O’ Connells, Tullysaran of Armagh by 2-14 to 2-1.The final pitted the Cork side against Galway’s Milltown with Carrigaline running out convincing winners on a score of 3-12 to 1-2.

Finally in the intermediate men’s cup played at Gallarus 2 GAA pitch, the semi final straight knock out saw Aghaloo O’Neills of Tryone losing out to Castledaly of Westmeath by 3-16 to 3-5. Macroom of Cork beat Na Piarsaigh of Limerick by 5-15 to 0-7 and also O’Raighallaighs of Louth by 4-7 to 3-9 to reach the final. In the final, the Westmeath first-time Comórtas competitors Castledaly, who travelled with an extensive panel, had the fresher legs against Macroom, winning by 1-12 to 0-3.

Comórtas chairman Pádraig Ó Sé commented; “It is always pure luck with weather conditions this time of the year but it did not dampen the spirit of the weekend with over 400 players togging out and socialising in West Kerry over the weekend. We had no major injuries, the clubs seemed to enjoy our West Kerry hospitality and we packed out hotels, BnB’s and rental houses with the teams, some who travelled from as far away as Tyrone to visit us which shows the enthusiasm that remains for our football festival. I’d especially like to thank our sponsors Lidl as well as the great support we get from Kerry County Council Tourism Unit, Údarás Na Gaeltachta, Lanes & Sons Foods, EJMenswear.com McKeever Sports. Also, I want to sincerely thank our volunteers, referees and of course Lispole GAA, Castlegregory, Dingle, An Gaeltacht GAA clubs and Rugbaí Corca Dhuibhne for proving the pitches.”
