Clanmaurice were victorious in their Munster Junior Club Camogie Semi-Final.
They defeated Bruff 1-9 to 0-7.
A cross-field wind was always going to make playing conditions difficult but both teams provided an excellent exhibition of camogie. Clanmaurice started well and launched a number of attacks but the Bruff full-back line held firm with full-back Lorraine McCarthy playing a Captain's role and Meave Barry and Jessie Ryan playing well in the corners. At the other end it was clear that No. 14 Sharon Bulfin was going to be a handful but Clanmaurice full-back Niamh Leen played well throughout the game. We had to wait until the 10th minute for a score when Patrice Diggin converted a free. Niamh Ryan replied for Bruff four minutes later with a free. Jackie Horgan restored the Clanmaurice lead in the 16th minute and Patrice Diggin converted two frees and scored a point from play between the 21st and 23rd minutes. Clanmaurice had a moment of good fortune in the 26th minute. Patrice Diggin's hurley broke as she was taking a free but her shot still reached the square where Jessica Fitzell pounced to raise a green flag. In the 30th minute Bruff had a chance to get back into the game when they were awarded a penalty. However, this was deflected over the bar. Jackie Horgan then scored a monster point from the sideline in the 34th minute followed by a Niamh Ryan free to leave the half-time score at Clanmaurice 1-6 Bruff 0-3.
Clanmaurice started the second half well as Patrice Diggin converted a free in the 31st minute and Sara Murphy scored from play in the 33rd. However, Bruff lifted their game and ran at Clanmaurice with their impressive centre-back Eva Butler leading the charge ably assisted by the likes of Marian Quaid at half-forward. This resulted in two frees for Niamh Ryan in the 37th and 40th minutes followed by a score from play in the 43rd to leave the score at the second water break Clanmaurice 1-8 Bruff 0-6. Niamh Ryan scored another free to leave just four between the sides and at this stage Bruff pushed hard for the goal that they so badly needed. However, Niamh Leen and her defence repelled the attacks and they were assisted by Jackie Horgan who dropped into a defensive role. A Patrice Diggin free was the final score of the game as Clanmaurice won on a scoreline of 1-9 to 0-7.
