Castleisland Community College are the new FAI Schools First Year ‘B’ Boys National Cup champions, following a dramatic 2-1 victory over Coláiste Ailigh of Letterkenny in Athlone.
The Kerry side struck first in the 18th minute when Donal O’Sullivan calmly slotted home to give Castleisland the advantage. They carried that 1-0 lead into half-time and looked set to claim the title, but deep into stoppage time Coláiste Ailigh equalised through Ethan Ó Brollacháin, forcing extra time.
Just minutes later Castleisland responded in spectacular fashion, as Adam Walsh fired in a superb effort to restore their lead. The Kerry school held firm from there, seeing out a tense finale to seal a famous 2-1 win and another national title to add to their 2023 honours.
Before kick-off, a minute’s silence was observed in memory of former FAI Schools international coach and St Eunan’s College teacher Ollie Horgan, who passed away recently.
It was a proud day for Castleisland, with strong travelling support celebrating at the final whistle as the Community College etched their name onto the national schools roll of honour once again.
