Carlow appoint Joe Murphy as interim manager

Carlow have appointed Joe Murphy as interim manager of their senior footballers.

The former Eire Og and Carlow player will take the reins for the remainder of the season, following the departure of Shane Curran last week.

Murphy guided Kildare club Naas to three successive county titles between 2022 and 2024.

Meath full-back Sean Rafferty says the squad don't know why coaches Joe McMahon and Martin Corey departed the set-up but they won't let it be a distraction.

It was announced on Saturday evening that McMahon and Corey would be leaving just a week out from the start of the Leinster Championship.

A short statement from manager Robbie Brennan and the county board did not give any reason.

Meath play Carlow in their provincial opener on Sunday.

Rafferty says it is disappointing but they just have to focus on preparations
